Student Activities 2016

This year Student Activities is back with capstone projects, our K-12 outreach program STEM Champion and a new initiative to sponsor student memberships.

As with previous years, we have proposed final year capstone projects to both the U of C mechanical engineering program and the SAIT mechanical technologist program. We have recently heard back from the U of C student group and have met with them for the first time to kick-off their project. The SAIT capstone project is in the process of being finalized as they start their projects later in the year.

Building on the success of the HVAC course now offered for the third time at the University of Calgary, we are offering to students to have their student memberships sponsored by the chapter. This will break down the final barrier to having more students at our monthly meetings. As part of the sponsorship we have asked that students attend a minimum of three meetings with the goal that they will experience the value ASHRAE provides.

Finally, Naveed will continue to organize activities for K-12 students. These activities will give students hands-on learning experiences with the science that goes into keeping our buildings comfortable and safe.
